Akai Fire|First Fl Studio Controller|Music Work Beats

Akai Fire

One of the favorite Daw of producers like Kshmr, Lost Stories, Zaeden etc. will be made it finally has a piece of hardware to call its own. In 2002, Ableton got its first hardware.

And Fl Studio, despite its popularity, has had to make with generic MIDI controllers until now. But now, The AKAI Professional Fire changes all of that.

The Akai Fire is a 4x16 grid of pads looks precisely like the Fl Studios Step Sequencer with a little black notch. They are not just ordinary On or Off buttons, as they’re velocity sensitive you can use them for finger drumming and play keyboard instrument in “note” mode.

That wouldn’t be exciting if all you could do was control the Akai Fire. There are also four Knots that can change anything from panning and volume to oscillator tuning or filter sweeps. You can even browse samples from a small OLED screen without touching a mouse or keyboard. Soloing Channels, muting, record and playback all the controls are provided in it. As compared to Ableton’s Push it is not that comprehensive but you can perform most basic tasks in Fl Studio right from the Akai Fire.

One of the unique features of The Akai Fire is the ability to combine up to four units into a single virtual control surface. Which means you get an 8x32 grid of pads to play with so there will be little less scrolling and button pushing on longer loops and more significant projects. It comes with the Fire Edition of Fl Studio, which is just a rebranded version of the $99 Fruity Edition. That version has some limitations like no recording, but it is enough for a beginner to get started. As compared to APC40 ($299), Akai Fire is cheaper i.e., $199 only.
